Sharing horse training knowledge 2020. offering up 3 horse training workshops April to June 2020
This New Year is already producing many opportunities for me to be able to gain more scientific knowledge and to share my comprehensive knowledge of behavioural science, learning theory and LIMA, as applied to horse training.
I have been invited to attend many animal training conferences which are planned over this next 12 months. Some are more valuable to me than others, mostly because they are more geared towards dog training. This said, all animals learn the same way and I do work cross-species.
However, there are never very many horse training orientated conferences or seminars. As much as it is all the same science, ethos, and application, I would always like more horse orientated ones here in the UK. As such, I am planning a series of one- day training workshops, starting off with clicker basics and behavioural science basics, through to the more advanced applications of both.
There will be 3 days over 3 months, where attendees can learn more and also practice applying it themselves. I can add more if there is a lot of interest.
Day 1. Saturday 11th April 2020. Foundation Day.
For attendees to be introduced to behavioural science, as it applies to horses. Learning about basic targeting skills and how to apply them. This is an essential introduction into how horses really learn and how we can harness that knowledge in our day to day care regimes. We identify problem areas and learn how to start to change behaviours and emotions into positive ones.
10am start- 3.30pm finish
Day 2. Saturday 16th May 2020. Basic Clicker Training workshop. Shaping Behaviour.
For attendees to be taken a little deeper into the science and be trained with great knowledge about shaping new behaviour. Hands-on time with horses.
Stationing, moving to targets, adding cues and generalising.
10 am start – 3.30 pm finish.
Day 3. Saturday 13th June. Precision Training for advanced techniques.
Workshop for counter conditioning and systematic desensitising for clipping, needle/injection preparation, Foot handling/farrier fear.
Working on shaping plans for self-bridling, calm saddling, voluntarily moving in for mounting, all based on the amazing relationship you gain when you use positive reinforcement as your main training tool.
10 am start – 3.30 pm finish
These event details will all shortly be up on my website and social media pages.

Over and above these courses, I always offer home visits to where the problem behaviours are happening. This includes full historical, behavioural, environmental and functional analysis. Once done we start to devise and implement a training plan and protocols which may include management changes as necessary.

I offer a bespoke day with me where I work 1 to 1 with you to bring your clicker training skills and shaping plans up to speed for errorless learning and training. These happen here at my yard in Skidby, East Yorkshire on any convenient date.

I offer telephone consultations where I train, mentor and support horse owners from all over the world. One client recently helped lives in the Caribbean, another in Spain and another in Italy. It makes no difference where in the world the owner is- especially when reviewing video footage of training etc. The world is smaller now than ever before!

It seems to me that I am going to have a really interesting and fulfilling 2020!
