Racehorse Retraining & Rehabilitation

Retraining racehorses and racehorse rehabilitation is mainly to de-stress the horse. As a racehorse they are completely different to a pet horse and only understand two commands - stop and go. Melanie can transform your racehorse into a relaxed family pet or riding horse. She has done so many times.

Retraining Process

Generally, retraining racehorses involves de-stressing the horse, calming them down and teaching them to be become free again.

Ex-racehorses come from racing with erratic behaviour patterns and, when training them to relax, everything should become smoother and more rhythmic. The horses learn to understand more, accept more and fight less. As a result they become highly trainable and happy.

Melanie uses many of the natural horsemanship techniques. There is no one way; Melanie uses the method that suits the horse best. If you would like to talk to Melanie about her retraining racehorses techniques, then please feel free to call or send a message using the form opposite.

Many have left us to become superstars.  “Tom” went on to win Bramham Horse Trials as “Park Preview” for Isla Johnson Wells. “Princess Willow” became a top class team chaser. Many horses have excelled in dressage to high levels, whilst eventing and show jumping careers have opened up to quite a few.

The vast majority of retrained horses have been re-homed to ordinary people as pleasure rides, Western trained, basic riding club horses or just hacks. Their lives are quiet and free from stress or pressure.

This is the main reason for our wanting to re-train ex-racehorses. We get tremendous pleasure from seeing them settled and happy with great futures in whatever sphere. It is our wish that they all get re-homed for life.

If you have a racehorse to come out of training, or own one and don’t want to see him hit the inevitable downward spiral, which is the case for most, then please contact us.

Training a Horse / Retraining racehorses to become family pets or riding horses involves completely retraining the horse. Racehorse rehabilitation mainly de-stresses the horse and teaches them to become free again. By using a range of horse training techniques, they can be transformed into a family pet or riding horse, and live a much happier life. Training a Horse after being an ex racehorse can be challenging, however, Melanie has the time and patience to completely transform your horse into a relaxed and happy horse.
